Episode 8
===

[00:00:00] One, two .

Sam Silvers: Welcome back, folks, to the Drenchline Podcast. This is gonna be episode eight, I think. They, they're starting to kinda stack up on us. Just a little preview, what we're gonna talk about today is, um, AI-ing, breeding. We're in the thralls of it. We're in the middle of it throughout the industry, so we thought it'd be a good time to talk about just popular bucks maybe, uh, bucks we've seen, things we've seen going, give some plugs to some of the guys breeding.

Um, as always, wanna thank y'all for following us. Uh, if you haven't, like, subscribe, share, all the things social media. We are at the Ag Teachers Conference- Yep ... right now in Corpus Christi, Texas. We're at the wonderful Dock's Bar and Grill right here on the water, which is, uh, behind us. Did a little fishing this morning.

Uh, Logan didn't get out of bed.

Logan Newsom: Uh- No, yeah, that was... Yeah, [00:01:00] you did some fishing.

Sam Silvers: Uh, me and Jurahee and Shep.

Logan Newsom: Or Jurahee and Shep did some fishing.

Sam Silvers: Did some fishing. Yep. Um, Logan was, uh, still trying to get back to Razor Bob's and get lined up there on his hairdo, but, uh, we're here nevertheless. Glad to be back.

So let's g- let's get into it.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, we, um, we kinda set back and, you know, as we were kinda thinking about, you know, all the opportunities we have throughout this podcast and trying to talk about timely events and, you know, probably focused so far, obviously, on the sheep and the goats and maybe more of the things that we're doing in-house as far as our own kids' show projects.

But we thought it might be a good time because we both are right in the middle of breeding season, AI season, flushing season, um, all the different stuff that that entails, just to kinda dig in a little bit what we're each doing on, you know, on the production side of, of our own operations. And like Sam said, you know, we've been to a few of these jackpots now and seen some of the stuff on social media that's kinda out, maybe some of those box- bucks that were [00:02:00] very popular, um, early on, you know, in their rookie campaign and kinda how some of those are faring.

And so we wanted to kinda just see, and I think the unique part from each one of our perspectives is we've got some different lineages and genetics, um, both trying to achieve, obviously, the same goals, but I think that'll be interesting just to kinda see what, you know, we're trying to do at Newsom Livestock, what you're trying to do at Silver's Livestock, um, crisscrossing some of that stuff and just kinda how all that works.

But like Sam said, we, uh, we've got an opportunity, I think, while we're down here. We are at, um, I guess the 26, uh, Ag Teachers Conference that, that those guys put on. Had a chance to meet with a few of those guys last night. I'm gonna try to get some content from, from some of those vocational teachers and, you know, see kinda what they're doing and, you know, what their...

Maybe I'll look into what their programs look like, specifically on the sheep and goat side. But, um, hopefully gonna have an opportunity to get some really good content and, like Sam said, have a little fun along the way, um, down here and- Gonna [00:03:00] play a, play a little n- night golf tonight ... We've got, we've got a tee time for a night, night, uh, round, uh, at the local...

What was it called? The Firefly?

Sam Silvers: Firefly. Yeah.

Logan Newsom: That's it, yeah. Lit up course. Um-

Sam Silvers: It's probably gonna be- Nine holes ... mosquito fly.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, we know how Sam deals with mosquitoes, so hopefully, uh-

Sam Silvers: Terrible

Logan Newsom: ... hopefully we'll get him all fixed up. And, uh, recap, tell us a little bit about fishing this morning. Um, you had Keith.

Keith took you out.

Sam Silvers: Keith, AKA Grumpy Keith Mock. That'd be Kevin Mock's dad. He's, uh, Saltwater Keith. He's a guide down here in Corpus. Um, really good dude. Um- Dry sense of humor, very dry. Um, but a, but a good guy, and, uh, we had fun. We, uh, caught our limit of trout, um, got our limit of drums, and then we caught, uh, one really nice redfish.

So was going home with, I think, I think they said it was, like, 63 or 64 pounds of fish, so-

Logan Newsom: So whenever you pulled back in, we happened to catch you guys while we were sitting here, um, at Doc's- Mm-hmm ... talking to the manager, you know, and all that, and you guys were pulling back in. Y'all had just dropped off all the fish- Yeah

got 'em cleaned over [00:04:00] there, and, um, that deal's kinda like... I mean, do you feel like you're cheating the system a little bit? Because you're not cleaning 'em, like- Hey- I mean, is that kinda like, is that kinda like if you had a really good sheep at Fort Worth, and then- ... you never saw him all year, and then you just kinda walked in and, and won?

Like-

Sam Silvers: No. No Huh? I don't know. It, it's, it's not cheating. It's called trying hard. Um- I thought, I thought, I thought that that was part of it. I thought you had to- It, it was 30 bucks to have the, the fish cleaned. Um, I, I don't even know what a filet knife costs now, but it doesn't last very long- Mm ... in these conditions down here.

So you can buy one, and the next time you go fishing it's already rusted out, so it's just easier to pay the guy 30 bucks and let him-

Logan Newsom: Pay somebody to do it.

Sam Silvers: Absolutely.

Logan Newsom: Interesting take. Yeah. Interesting take from a stock show dad. Uh, okay, so now that we've got all of our, uh, side jokes out of the way, um-

Sam Silvers: Not yet

Logan Newsom: yeah, so we're on, we're in the middle of it. Have you guys done anything yet? Have y'all bred anything yet? We have not bred anything yet.

Sam Silvers: We've, uh, bred some fall-born crosses, AI'd them. Um, what did I tell you? I think it was like 50-

Logan Newsom: [00:05:00] Yeah, real good results ...

Sam Silvers: 53%. Um- Yep.

Logan Newsom: Matt Kennedy did those

Sam Silvers: ... Matt, Matt did those.

Um, think, you know, shout out to Matt. Matt's... I, I don't think there's anyone better as far as getting ewes bred and stuff. A lot of twins in that deal, but that, that's it. No blacks yet. Um, our first flush is coming up, uh, the middle of August, um, so really excited about that. Just been trying to get the recips ready, the donors ready, you know, all the stuff.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, Sam is, uh, and, and obviously, you know, Prep and Mad Dog and, you know, that whole, that, that group down there in Big Lake, and, um, you know, Rick obviously being very involved in it also, um, you guys have AI'd final ewes down there for three years?

Sam Silvers: This'll be our th- I think our third year.

Logan Newsom: Yeah. Okay, three years.

That's what I was thinking. Like, I mean, and that's... And, and really have gotten along well.

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm.

Logan Newsom: I mean, you know, and especially, like, I remember we were sitting here, you're like, "Y'all were breeding those in June," I think.

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm.

Logan Newsom: You know, and when we sit here and we talk about, you know, how challenging it can be, you know, sheep are seasonal breeders, like, all that stuff, and, um- Not only that, but [00:06:00] to get fine wools and to get sheep bred in Big Lake, America, like-

Sam Silvers: It's tough

Logan Newsom: that's, yeah, it's tough. So I mean, you know, 50... I know some guys might be sitting here thinking, "Oh, that's not, you know, as good as what you'd hope," but you think about all the conditions and all the variables and the factors that go into that a- and more than anything, you know, the, the, the timing, um, of those sheep being, you know, so far out of season and what we're trying to do there, like I'd, I'd say you gotta be very, very happy with those results.

And like Sam said, I don't, I don't know if there's anybody that breeds more sheep than what Matt's got going on right now.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, for sure. I think, I think we're gonna... We, we talked, Rick and I talked the other day, I think we're gonna take probably five or six of those better, uh, fine wool ewes, and we're gonna roll them into a flush program this year and just kinda see what happens, so.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, we, we did that last year. Um, we didn't do it this year and, and we didn't have any other reasoning, um, than we just didn't do it, but I, I think the fine wool deal is a little interesting on the flush side of it because, you know, really and truly I'd say it's similar to, um, you know, maybe what the goat guys were [00:07:00] getting five to 10 years ago as far as just-

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm

Logan Newsom: some really, really good numbers and some really high quality, you know, eggs and opportunities for embryos. And I mean, I'll be honest, I think the biggest thing is we haven't screwed up the fine wools. Yeah. You know? Just the, maybe the way-

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm

Logan Newsom: ... that we have medium wool sheep as far as just being so lined up and, you know, maybe limited on, you know, what folks are thinking from an outcross standpoint, and, you know, that, that big word hybrid vigor, you know, that we all learned about probably in freshman animal science.

Like, those fine wool sheep, those Rambouillet sheep, they still got some of that, you know? Yeah. Especially, like, whenever, you know, you kinda start, um, you know, talking about, you know, making crosses or whatever that looks like, but just that sheep in general, um, you know, they're tougher, they're hardier, you know.

Uh, I would even say, I mean, I don't know if you would call them more efficient, but you turn 100 fine wool ewes out in Big Lake, Texas, you turn 100 of my black face ewes out in Big Lake, Texas, there ain't many of those blacks coming home.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, not gonna come back alive. No.

Logan Newsom: No, they're not. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, I, I think the fine wool deal, whenever we did it, we had, we had really, [00:08:00] really good results as far as just flush numbers and egg quality, and so that's something we're gonna kinda continue and dabble in.

Uh, probably the biggest reason this year, you know, we didn't feel like we had, you know, maybe that right set of ewes that we wanted to do it on, but I think it's interesting. I know there's some guys that are doing it, um, a- and, you know, kinda looking into it. But, um, I think the, I think the aspect of, of dealing with those Rambouillet sheep is, is pretty interesting.

So, um, you talked a little bit about flush coming up. Um, we're kinda the same way. We had our first AI- Uh, and we did a, we did a set of our final ewes that we bred to a final buck to try to have a handful of early ones. You know, for us, we're kinda trying to make some replacements on that deal. Um-

Sam Silvers: Right

Logan Newsom: and then we did a little handful of blacks to kinda get started with, kinda some early December aged sheep.

Sam Silvers: And what did you, what'd you breed those to, the blacks? What'd you-

Logan Newsom: So on the blacks we did, um, we did most of our stuff that we owned, as far as, you know, some in-house stuff. Um, we did War Paint, which is the FF Navajo son that we bought last year from Ty and Cooper, and that, that buck did us a really good job.

[00:09:00] Um, utilized him where we felt like we needed to use... utilize some, you know, FF, uh, clean bucks there, you know, and, and kind of in that scenario. But that buck did us a good job across the board, and so we used him. Um, we used Quanella. We did not get as many sheep out of Quanella last year, which was a 2.0 son, um, as what we probably wanted to.

We got a little handful early, and there was a lot of guys that had bought semen on that sheep, and, um, you know, it's like any of these buck lambs, sometimes they're just not semen quality-

Sam Silvers: Yeah

Logan Newsom: ... um, volume. It just-

Sam Silvers: We, we were fortunate- ... fortunate ... in Mad Dog, we, you know, we used him at Mad Dog, and it was good, and-

Logan Newsom: Yeah

Sam Silvers: and the, the, the breed rate was good, stick rate was good on him. Um, and got some really nice crosses out of him this year.

Logan Newsom: So... S- so we're gonna... We wanted to kinda jump back in there, and, uh, we got a handful early that we like, they're feeding out well, but after that we just didn't, we just didn't get any.

Um, and then we bought a new Never Say Never son, uh, from Ty and Cooper who we call Never a Doubt, that's, uh, Never Say Never on that pearl ewe that Sadie [00:10:00] Allen won kind of the world with there that one year, and she was a Frog daughter. So kinda lines back up, but at the same time, and I know we'll kinda dig through this as we kinda talk about some of these bucks that are, you know, popular and, you know, some of the ones that are getting pushed across with some of the big firms.

But for us, where we're at, we're very Unicorn affiliated-

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm

Logan Newsom: ... um, is what I would say. Um, you know, and, and I, I've said it in some write-ups before, like I loved Unicorn the day that I saw him. I've continued to breed him and his sons, and that's kinda where we've... You know, our, our tree is, is not branching a whole lot at the moment.

Um, and so we're interested, you know, aggressively looking at, you know, opportunities, kinda going back to that hybrid vigor deal. Like we've got an outcross, like that's kinda where we're at. Like we need to, we need to kinda look into, you know, some other stuff. And, and so that was part of the reason that, you know, the, the Never Say Never son that's, that's obviously kinda goes back to that Say When and, you know, some of that kind of, you know, lineage that maybe we didn't have a lot of, was [00:11:00] appealing because for us, you know, and kinda call it kinda that half outcross where we could kinda try something that, you know, maybe is a little out of our wheelhouse, but at the same time, obviously, you know, something that, that folks have been successful with and maybe kinda try to mix that up.

And, you know, I told somebody one time whenever they were at... We- with... It's actually a guy that has bought some ewes from us, and doesn't necessarily have, I would say- An extensive background in livestock production. Um, but kids have been showing, and, you know, one in five or 10 ewes, and he's like, "Man, how do you...

Like, what's this like when you're breeding and you're, you know, AI into this or AI into that and, you know, mixing and matching these genetics?" And I said, "It's like you take a puzzle and you put it upside down on the table, and then you try to put it together."

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: Like, that's basically what we're trying to do.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, exactly. So- 100%.

Logan Newsom: But yeah, so we're, um, we did our first AI. We've got some flushes coming up. You, you kinda mentioned that. Tell me a little, um... Obviously- I would say your mineral regiment at Silver's Livestock-

Sam Silvers: Yeah

Logan Newsom: ... is second to none. I would hope so anyways. Um, tell me a little about what [00:12:00] you guys...

Yeah, shout out to Duraferm. Alan- ... still waiting on you. Talk to me, homie. Um, tell me a little bit about what, what you guys do. Like, is there anything that you've found, whether it's on the donors or on the recept side or just your management practices, that you feel like, "Hey, the year that we did that, or the AI, or the flush that we did that, things worked better than what they had been," or anything that you've- Y- you know-

tidbits, tricks, advice?

Sam Silvers: I, I'm not gonna say that, that, that I have found the one tool that makes it better, 'cause I don't, I don't know that we f- we flush better numbers than anybody. I, I think where we live and the environment that we're in hinders a lot of what we're gonna do.

Logan Newsom: On early stuff.

Sam Silvers: On early stuff.

Yeah. Um, but we try to be as consistent as possible with, with our nutrition program, right? Um, y- you know, a, a good quality TMR that we get mixed. Um, we make sure that, uh, we have Rumensin in there. We make sure that we... You know, something we did last year is we started adding some, some, uh, what do you [00:13:00] call it, oxytetracycline type stuff in there, um, just to try to pre-breeding and stuff like that to, you know, offset some problems.

Um, a- and then consistent with our mineral program, obviously we feed Duraferm. I, you know, I don't think there's a better, better breeding mineral on the market. Um, and we try to make sure that that's out 24/7, that they don't go dry on it, they don't run out. Um, and that's, that's just what we do. Um, and try to keep those ewes as comfortable as possible as we can, right?

Um-

Logan Newsom: From a climate standpoint?

Sam Silvers: Yeah, so y- you know, we added on to our barn this past year, added on to an- another 100 feet. Um, but it's just roof, open air, so we like to keep them in the sh- you know, those donors right now are in the shade getting the cool breeze. Um, y- you know, trying to keep the dust levels down, keep them on a good quality hay.

They're on a Tifton 85 grass hay, all they want. Um, just keep them in good shape, um, keep them comfortable, um, and try to reduce as much stress as possible. Um, I think it's, what's intrigued me is, you know, the part of the [00:14:00] world we live in, there's a lot of game ranches and deer breeding facilities.

Logan Newsom: Oh, yeah.

Sam Silvers: And talking to some of them guys over the years, they're, they're big on low-stress handling. You know, they do a lot of stuff in the dark, things like that. And, and I tend to kind of try to look at that. I- we don't have a all-dark facility or nothing, but, you know, as low-stress as possible I think is gonna help you more than anything.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, and that's, that's an interesting topic I think that you brought up. Like, I mean, at the end of the day- If guys can get white-tailed deer bred- Yeah ... surely the hell we can get some sheep bred.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, no kidding.

Logan Newsom: Like, I mean, the, the, that's one of... You know, you just think about that animal and that climate and that environment and, you know, I think that a lot of the stuff, if you talk to some of those guys that were d- that are, that are, you know, maybe AI technicians or doing some embryo work, whether they got started in the deer game or have known someone that they've kinda bounced some ideas off, there's a lot of that that correlates, you know-

Sam Silvers: Yeah

Logan Newsom: within those two, um, you know, species and kinda what we're trying to do. And at the same time, you know, very, very similar to what those guys are trying to do. They're trying to take the buck [00:15:00] that scores 240, 260, whatever it is, and get him across as many as they possibly can, and we're trying to take the buck that we think can win San Antonio and breed him to as many ewes as we possibly can.

So-

Sam Silvers: Yep

Logan Newsom: ... um, you know, very similar scenarios. Uh, you know, that's... I, I think that's probably a, a similar story if you, if you polled a ton of the breeders across the country, we're all trying to do the same thing. And, you know, stress is one of those that it's hard to mitigate, but at the same time, like, that's what we're probably trying to focus on as much as anything, because you think about all the different factors that could contribute to stress: environment, climate, you know, change in feeds, like what you talked about, running out of feed.

You know, like, all the things that really, like, some of those are within our control. You know, if we run out of feed and, you know, they have to skip a feeding or until the feed truck comes in, or you have to swap something up, like, okay, that's, that's probably something that we can control. But, um, you know, we can talk about it, you know, kinda obviously here recently, like big rains that you guys have had- Mm-hmm

down there, you know, the Texas Hill Country, like l- literally [00:16:00] flooding and, you know, rains and change in, you know, barometric pressure, and just all the different stuff that, you know, is kind of out of our control. And sometimes, if I'm being completely honest, you know, I sit back and I almost wanna beat my head against the wall and say, "What the hell are we trying to do?"

Like, we're trying to literally go against, you know, swim upstream and go against the grain on, you know, all this stuff. Um, and then there's so many things that we can't control. Yeah. Um, but at the same time, I think stress is one of those deals that really, if we can have it in our thought process and we can have it, you know, as something that like, "Hey, we're gonna try to really make sure those sheep are comfortable.

We're gonna try to make sure that, you know, dust is low," like fresh air quality, you know, all the different stuff. I mean, we're very similar with what we're trying to do at the house and what we've kinda got things set up like. Um- One thing that I, I heard a story the other day, and I'm talking about the boys in Elk City.

I mean, those guys just got done with a flush, and they had one of their pens maybe they did three ewes, three sets of donors. [00:17:00] They kind of had them all split up, and we talk about stress, and I think this is, you know, a, a, a very relevant situation that, you know, really like, in even talking to them, maybe they didn't think about it.

Obviously they didn't, or, you know, they'd probably assumingly fixed it. But they had two pens that did great, averaged a gazillion eggs is what I always tell Todd that, you know, every time they flush, it's like world record.

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm.

Logan Newsom: Um, but they had this one pen that had four, five, six, eight ewes, whatever it was in there, and it was just almost a complete bust.

As they kinda dug into it and looked and paid a little more attention or, you know, whatever that was, they had one of them ewes in there that was just beating the hell out of the other ones. Yeah. You know, just kind of a dominant figure in that deal, you know, queen bee, whatever you wanna call it. And that doesn't sound like something because we see it happen all the time, you know, like one of those ewes beating another one off the trough.

But when we're trying to super ovulate and we're trying to do all of this stuff that, you know, is a little out of, you know, the norm Something even as minimal [00:18:00] as that, you know, every time that those ewes came up to the feeder, if that one ewe kinda came in there and, you know, just whooped up on everything else and they didn't get to eat as much, maybe they didn't get to drink as much.

You know, maybe it's just the fact they had her pinned up in the corner, or she had them pinned up in the corner, whatever. It's a stressful environment, and it can just kinda throw all of that stuff out of whack.

Sam Silvers: It, it's funny, funny that you bring that up. I had, uh, uh, somebody text me before we left to come down here.

They're wanting to flush one ewe, and, you know, I told 'em, I said, d- gave 'em the dates, protocols for everything, and I said, "But y- you know, I would really... Let's bring that one donor, and let's get her in here pretty early- Yeah ... and let's get her acclimated to the other donors, 'cause she's gonna have to get established somewhere in the pecking order."

Logan Newsom: Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: 'Cause if we just, if we bring her a week before and I throw her in with my donors, they're gonna beat the hell out of her. It's not gonna be good, yeah. So-

Logan Newsom: And, and the other side of it, too, like maybe she beats the hell out of, you know, a handful of yours. Yeah. Like, it's just a bad, it's a bad situation.

Like, you know, and I think you kinda just, you can think about it in, you know, 100 different scenarios outside of the sheep world. [00:19:00] You're taking and you're introducing, what's different than that, you know, a sixth-grade boy that's going to, you know, a new school for the first time, like, and having to sit down in the cafeteria.

Like, same deal. Like, he's a little-

Sam Silvers: Talking about bullies, is that still a thing?

Logan Newsom: I don't know.

Sam Silvers: Do people get bullied anymore?

Logan Newsom: I think so. Actually, I think it's a very big thing.

Sam Silvers: How about swirlies?

Logan Newsom: I think that would consist of bullying. I don't know. I, I got news for you. I never got a swirly, and I don't know if it was because I was necessarily, people were scared of me.

I think I was just big enough that they're like, "We can't pick him up."

Sam Silvers: Well, yeah, you were probably like eight feet tall in sixth grade and-

Logan Newsom: Yeah. My head didn't fit in a toilet.

Sam Silvers: Had a mustache.

Logan Newsom: I did not have a mustache.

Sam Silvers: All right, so l- let's talk about, let's talk about bucks. Uh, you know- Okay ... h- hot topic here.

I, I think, um, I, I think we may, I don't know, we'll get into it. We may ruffle a few feathers. If not, um, that's okay. Um, you know, we talk about this, uh, uh, we talk about this on a personal level, right? Is, is where are we at in terms of the industry right now? Um, [00:20:00] we, we go out, we look at a lot of wethers all over the places, and, you know, if I'm being honest, the, I don't see the consistency there that we, we saw 10 years ago.

Logan Newsom: Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: Would you agree with that? I would agree. Um, so how do we... Now, w- with making that statement, how do us, as breeders, get back to that? How do we make our breeding decisions and, you know, try to remain consistent in what we're producing, right?

Logan Newsom: Well, and I, and I think that's interesting, and I think that, you know, I remember walking around Corp Black and White Weekend, you know, and there's obviously- a thousand breeders there maybe not quite that many, but it feels like it.

They're everywhere, and there's pre- there's breeders from all different parts of the country. There's different aged sheep. You know, there's guys that at the end of the day have different goals maybe than what we do. You know, we're trying to raise sheep that are gonna be, for the most part, very, very successful at Texas Majors, you know, showing that maybe 10 to 12-month-old range, you know, or age range.

And so [00:21:00] there's guys that obviously have different goals than us, so I'm not, I'm not necessarily gonna sit here and say what we're doing is right and what you're doing wrong. It's just, it's part of it. I do think there's, there's some beauty in that, you know, and there's some beauty in this, what we talked about, the flushing, the AI-ing, the ability to buy semen from, you know, the next hottest buck I don't believe, a- and, you know, I grew up with a, a grandad that was very successful in show pig world, and I remember whenever I was kinda involved in that, and I really wanted to, um...

I wanted to breed to some outside boars. And, you know, this would be the point that, like, Purple Circle is, you know, like-

Sam Silvers: Hot

Logan Newsom: ... hot. Like, as soon as, as soon as the magazine comes in, you know, you're looking through it, everybody that's anybody is advertising. Um, semen catalogs were coming out. You know, all of those big boar studs would send a semen catalog and, you know, and they'd have the pictures of those things.

And we're talking 25, 30 years ago, so, you know, if you're new to this game and you're thinking social media is a big deal as far as how those bucks are promoted, you shoulda seen what, you know, boar catalogs and Purple Circle was like in the late [00:22:00] '90s. But I remember always asking him, "What about this boar?

What about this boar?" You know, "Look at the picture of this one." And he'd always say, "Have you seen him?" Well, no, I hadn't seen him. He's at, you know, High Point or, you know, wherever, uh, Hammer's or, you know, any of the, any of the g- the guys that, you know, that were just, just killing it. And, um, Schaefer's Gold Rush back in the day.

But he would always say, "Well, I'm not breeding to him till you've seen him." And, you know, I'm a, I'm a young kid and I'm thinking like, "Why would he even trust my opinion?" But h- he was making a point, and I think it goes into from a production breeding mindset. You can't... And, and this has nothing to do with photo altercations or anything.

This has 100% to do with you know what your ewes are like at home, you know what your does are like, you know what your sows are like, your heifers, whatever, your cows. Whatever you're doing, you have to physically see, if you're a breeder, and there's a difference I think obviously from a, from someone that has a breeding mindset and someone that just is replicating.

If you're a breeder, like, [00:23:00] you have to come in and, you know, 'cause it might not be the most popular buck. If you pull into Impacts or Harrells or, you know, Beatty's or Ty Cooper's, that one that might be over in the corner that might not be the one selling a lot of the semen, that might be the next piece of that up, down, side pu...

you know, upside down puzzle that fits your program. Yeah. But if you just looked at the pictures, you know, you'd say, "Oh, well, there's Unicorn" So- "... there's Company Man, there's whatever." And really and truly that might not necessarily be the piece, at least across the board what you want.

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: And I think there's a lot of that, and I, and I, I think anyone that has paid attention to this deal wouldn't, wouldn't, I would say, probably not argue with what we're saying on that.

Guys are seeing what the next fad is, what the next trend is, you know, what the next hot buck is. And, and, and I'm not saying that that doesn't work-

Sam Silvers: And it's, it's hard, no, 'cause, 'cause I, I'm, I'm guilty of it too.

Logan Newsom: Guilty, for sure.

Sam Silvers: Right?

Logan Newsom: Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: Um, because you're sitting there, and a lot of people have brought this up in conversations that I've talked to you and, and other breeders is, you [00:24:00] know, if we don't breed to those popular ones, are we gonna get people to show up at the house-

Logan Newsom: To show up and look

Sam Silvers: and look?

Logan Newsom: Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: Probab- at this stage, probably not.

Logan Newsom: Right.

Sam Silvers: You know? Um, but at the same time, y- you know, I think at some point, me personally, I'm probably gonna have to make a stand and breed what I think is right and where, the direction I need to, I need to head to raise more.

Logan Newsom: Well, and that's... Yeah, and the kinda sheep you like.

Sam Silvers: Sheep I like.

Logan Newsom: The kinda sheep, the kinda sheep you want your customers to feed, and you know, that you feel like can give them the best chance for success. Yeah, can you imagine, like, if you just, "Hey, Sam, what's, uh, what'd you breed to this year?" "Oh, we bred to 0687." Yeah. You know? "Oh, 0687." You know, everybody would look at you like-

Sam Silvers: Red tag.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, red... Yeah. This guy has lost it. Like, you mean to tell me that you didn't bring to XX and X? No, no, we just bred... No, he's a, he's our keeper buck.

Sam Silvers: But I think it goes beyond, 'cause, you know, this is one of my icks, right? I- is what the... I think that's what the kids call it nowadays is... And we've talked about this.

It goes into the, the breeding world as well, but, you know, people that call and just want pictures o- [00:25:00] of, of sheep and know how much they're priced at, it, and, but don't wanna come look at them. I think that that is... We're in that day and age where it's like Amazon, right? They just wanna get online, pick out what they want, and be done with it.

Logan Newsom: Yeah.

Sam Silvers: A- and there's, there's good to that, but there's also, I- I think, a negative to that as well.

Logan Newsom: Yeah. You know, there's obviously that convenience factor that we've all, you know, become accustomed to in our daily lives. Um, you can, if you know your size, I mean, you can call and custom order the set of golf clubs that you want.

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: You know? Without ever hitting them, just without ever getting a feel for them, without ever going to a, you know, a pro shop. And, and I think that goes into... It's not, and we, and we see this, and it's, you know, probably a conversation that gets talked about a lot on Facebook or social media. It's not, it's not special to the livestock world, it's people in general.

Yeah. I mean, it's the reason Amazon is, you know... That's the reason Jeff's got that big boat. Like, people are so used to just, "Oh, I can click [00:26:00] and order. Oh, I can click and buy, you know, the sheep that I want for my kids."

Sam Silvers: Maybe that's what we should raise, a stud buck, and we just name him Amazon.

Logan Newsom: Amazon. Yeah.

And it's just like, we just- Click ... we just click. Just click. Freeze a bunch of semen and price it fairly inexpensive and just-

Sam Silvers: Sell billions of it

Logan Newsom: ... have it there next day

Sam Silvers: And then we won't have to do this podcast-

Logan Newsom: We'll have a boat

Sam Silvers: ... on the beach here.

Logan Newsom: Well, Sam already has a boat, so. Oh, I have, y-

Sam Silvers: I have a boat, a small boat.

Little boat. Okay, so let's get off my boat situation. Let's talk about bucks, maybe bucks that you're interested in breeding to this year, uh, bucks that you've seen in, in your out and about, things like that.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, so, you know, I th- and I, I thought about this as we... 'cause I had a feeling that, you know, we were gonna go down that little saga that we just did.

Um, I think-

Sam Silvers: I wouldn't call it a saga. More like a rabbit hole

Logan Newsom: ... rabbit hole. Saga. I think the interesting part as you listen to this episode, um-

Sam Silvers: You want me to get started on young judges?

Logan Newsom: Um, as you listen to this episode, keep this in mind. So we are [00:27:00] strictly talking about what we're trying to do at each one of our operations.

If you're planning on breeding to 687 at Sam's or Red Tag and we don't mention him- Don't take it personal. I know that some folks like there sometimes like to jump on our-

Sam Silvers: Yeah, yeah

Logan Newsom: ... social media and, you know, like to, you know, correct us, and that's perfectly fine. We don't have a problem with that. I think our skin's thick, and, um, it's part of, you know, putting yourself out there on this sort of platform.

But we're just talking about what we're doing. I got news for you guys. I'm gonna guess. Hell, we'll probably swing and miss on 75% of them. So, um, if we don't mention your buck or if you're a big-time farm and you think you got the next one that's gonna win San Antone, um, don't feel bad about it. You can-

Sam Silvers: Well, we have a, we have a-

Logan Newsom: You can reach out, and we-

Sam Silvers: Yeah, we have a breeder spotlight

and we have a breeder spotlight package-

Logan Newsom: Yeah ... that we would love to come to your facility and, and, and-

Sam Silvers: Talk about your bucks

Logan Newsom: ... visit about it. And hell, we might even probably buy- Yeah ... some semen from you, but, um-

Sam Silvers: But it's not free.

Logan Newsom: It's not free. It's not free. It's definitely, that would, that would fall under the category of sponsorship.

Mm-hmm. Feel free to reach out to Katy Newsom. So- Uh, she's the one that handles all that ...

Sam Silvers: disclaimer. Yeah. This is just what [00:28:00] we've seen.

Logan Newsom: That's what we're, that's what we've seen.

Sam Silvers: This is what we're thinking about trying.

Logan Newsom: Uh, going back to, you know, what granddaddy taught me. Like, yeah, this is the stuff that we've laid eyes on.

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: Um, you know, and, and, uh, yeah, as far as what we're trying to do, um, again, both of us might be at different stages in our breeding program. I kind of briefly hit on what we're trying to do. You know, we're interested in some outcross options, uh, maybe kinda fork that tree branch, you know, just a little bit.

I'm kinda get-

Sam Silvers: Getting pretty straight

Logan Newsom: ... I'll be honest. I'm getting pretty straight, and I, I kind of just like what I like. But we haven't had any come out with three eyes or two heads or five legs, so I feel like we're just- Yeah ... whipping and spurring. So okay. Um, all right. So are you, you wanna s- you wanna kick this off or-

Sam Silvers: Well, you

Now, I, I want the audience to know that, that Logan Newsom takes this very seriously. He, he has a, uh- Spiral notebook ... spiral notebook- College ruled ... and took notes. Went and got a haircut yesterday.

Logan Newsom: Hey, shout out. If you're in the Corpus Christi area, um, you gotta come across the causeway here. Razor Rob. [00:29:00]

Sam Silvers: On Po- North Padre Island.

Isn't that- North Padre Island Drive ... that it?

Logan Newsom: I think so, yeah ... uh, whatever it is. Come across the cau- causeway. Uh, right there on the left-hand side, Razor Rob. Hey, he'll line you up. Um, loves the troops. Supports-

Sam Silvers: I did not need Razor Rob ...

Logan Newsom: supports, um, all the local, um, firefighters, teachers, educators. Uh, sweet place.

Them dudes in there hooked me up. He would not have known what to do with Sam. He would've ... It would've probably been like, you know, sometimes whenever you have to scalp your yard down and just kinda start fresh, that's probably exactly what Razor Rob would've probably wanted to say.

Sam Silvers: "Let's just- Verticut my head

Logan Newsom: verticut your ... I'm so impressed that you know what a verticut is. So-

Sam Silvers: Oh, yeah. So Katy behind the camera just reminded us that we did cross over 10,000 downloads as of last week, right? Yeah. Um, how many, how many views are we up to now?

Logan Newsom: Quarter of a [00:30:00] million, she says Quarter of a million views I think that's the same as a gazillion.

I've always thought those two kinda went hand-in-hand. Yeah. I, I don't know. Okay, so- 10,000 downloads. 10,000 people wanted to see and hear what you had to say.

Sam Silvers: I, I think they were just on for your hair and your outfit choices.

Logan Newsom: They must have been really, really bored.

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm. Okay, so it looks like, uh... Man.

Logan Newsom: So what I did there, th- th- this is a, this is a book that, you know, I didn't, I didn't buy this at the local Dollar General this morning.

This is, you know, some notes that, that I've been, you know, pondering as I drive down the road.

Sam Silvers: Mm-hmm.

Logan Newsom: And, you know, uh, some, some bucks that I've seen or heard that folks have told me, "Hey, this one looks good. This one does these things."

Sam Silvers: I really wanna give you shit about this, but I won't. Can I say shit? I can say shit, can't I?

Logan Newsom: It's, we're past that point. We got 10,000 downloads. Okay. We're basically celebrities.

Sam Silvers: I think I said shit on, like, the first episode.

Logan Newsom: First six sentences probably.

Sam Silvers: Well, shit. Okay. Okay, so, um-

Logan Newsom: Warpaint.

Sam Silvers: Let's just- Warpaint ... I'm gonna, I'm gonna read 'em to you. Warpaint, yep, we [00:31:00] know about Warpaint, right?

Logan Newsom: Warpaint, yep.

Bu- Buck Lamb FF deal that we bought last year. That's a, that's a m- ma- you know, mature buck now that he does a good job. We like what he did. Uh, we're, we're gonna, we're gonna utilize him again.

Sam Silvers: Navajo Sundown. Navajo S- yeah, he was a Navajo Sundown. Saw, saw some nice sheep out of him. Never a Doubt, now that's, that's one that, that's one that you bought into, right?

Logan Newsom: Yes, that was a Buck Lamb that Ty and Cooper sold. We purchased with Flanagan Livestock, with Chris and Ashley, uh, this spring. I guess they would've-

Sam Silvers: Good people, by the way.

Logan Newsom: Yep, yep. Good folks. Um, that sheep was sold corp weekend.

Sam Silvers: Okay.

Logan Newsom: Um, he was a Never Say Never on... I kinda mentioned it there, that we'd, we'd bred to him.

Mm-hmm. We were super excited that buck was fertile early, so we got a chance to, to be able to jump in there and get hopefully some of these early ones out of him. But, um, Sadie had Pearl, which was Navajo's sister- Okay ... that she won a bunch with, um, you know, on, on the ewe side of things. And, uh, I think that ewe ends up winning OIE or whatever.

But for us, that was an interesting [00:32:00] piece because it got us a l- a little bit of a wrinkle of the Never Say Never, um, the Say When stuff. It kinda brought in a little bit of that outcross that we were talking about. But at the same time, Frog was a buck that we owned with Ty and Cooper, we bought a handful of years ago, that probably was the one that kinda helped us start progressing forward in, you know, the direction that we wanted to be.

And, um, 'cause so it kinda li- it lined some stuff up, but there's still an outcross there. So that was an, that was an interesting piece. That's a buck that, that we've, that we're pretty high on, that we've, we f- we feel real good about.

Sam Silvers: Quinella we all know. We talked about Quinella earlier. Yeah, yeah. Um- Get some sheep out of him.

Logan Newsom: I think you'll like him. Yeah, I know I will. I mean, that's, you know, obviously kind of what we fought a little bit.

Sam Silvers: And, and I think a buck that's versatile on, on, on different kinds of ewes, right? Black face ewes, white face ewes, um, get along really good.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, yeah. We got a, uh, we got a m- couple of those mad dogs that, uh, the kids have on feed and, you know, sold a few.

And, um- Quentin's got a really neat one, uh, that's, that we're all out of Quinilla that I thought that, I thought that buck was again, you know, he fought some semen issues, but hopefully we can get a, get a little run out of him.

Sam Silvers: [00:33:00] So twofold here, Bad Man and Frontline?

Logan Newsom: Yeah, so Bad Man is a, uh, Bad Man is an interesting sheep, uh, for us because he's a 2.0 son Ty and Cooper would have raised him.

He's a 2.0, and I might mess this up, but he's a 2.0 on grid-

Sam Silvers: No, unicorn gritty?

Badman, it says unicorn gritty.

Logan Newsom: No, I know. Just, you just- Okay, sorry ... simmer. Don't, don't, don't pay attention to all my-

Sam Silvers: I should never question-

Logan Newsom: Yeah, my, these, my, my, my- ... about these, uh, bucks up there at, uh- I've been through Oklahoma-

Oklahoma ... a handful of times.

Sam Silvers: Western Oklahoma.

Logan Newsom: Uh, okay, so, so- ... Badman is a unicorn gritty. Okay. All right, so, and that would be gritty on Gritty's mom. And I can't remember all the details, but maybe Cooper bought that ewe from Tyler. Okay. Um, so kinda the same deal, kinda like that never, you know, it's a, it's a different wrinkle.

It's a little bit of an outcross.

Sam Silvers: Probably what I, now I haven't seen this buck, but I'm gonna venture to say probably a little more terminal shape in there, stuff like that?

Logan Newsom: Big shape, big shape.

Sam Silvers: Hard touching. [00:34:00]

Logan Newsom: Yep, yep, very much so.

Sam Silvers: 'Cause Gritty was like that. I did see Gritty.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, and, uh, I thought that sheep looked similar to, you know, kinda what some of the things that, like, 2.0 did, but, you know, with a little different wrinkle.

Um, so that's a sheep. I know that, I know that them boys in Elk City have been pretty high on him, you know, that, that, uh, I've talked to a handful of guys in the Midwest that have, whether they've tried him or, you know, Ty's sent some, you know, as kinda backup or extra, like, that, that's a sheep that, uh, again, for what we're trying to do, the opportunity to maybe have a little bit of a, a fork in that branch down there on the bottom side I thought was, was somewhat intriguing.

Yep. Um, Frontline, is that the other one that's listed there?

Sam Silvers: Yeah, FF Bell.

Logan Newsom: Yep, yep, that's the one that Tyson would've bought. Uh, that's a Bell son that would've been on Navajo's mom. I saw that sheep when I went and picked up semen the other day. I thought he looked good. I thought that was a sheep that looked very intriguing.

Uh, some Bell things, obviously the big white wool and, you know, big feature, and thought that one, uh, hip and hind leg was, was good, and, you know, he was shallow [00:35:00] and thought he was an intriguing piece there. I know Tyson bought him and, and, uh, his brother, uh, back in that, one of them early sales. But I thought that was a sheep that, you know, for us is one that we've kinda got an eye on that we might, we might try to utilize.

Sam Silvers: Okay. Um, and then let's talk about some other ones you got wrote down here. Uh, Google Me, is that, that's a, is that a Platinum deal that Hobbs-

Logan Newsom: Platinum and Hobbs own that buck

Sam Silvers: ... Platinum and Hobbs? Yep. Yeah.

Logan Newsom: Um, have not seen that buck in person. I've talked to a handful of people that have, that have, uh, you know, seen him or, you know, like him or, you know, recommended him or whatever.

Mm-hmm. Um, but I know that those guys promoted him well, and I mean, he was one of those that was, you know, I guess, on social media a bunch and, you know, was kinda one that, again, you know, kinda wrote down that kinda venture back and maybe wanna look at and see where it might fit as far as any sort of a different piece.

Sam Silvers: Platinum Hobbs. Yep. Diamond C. Car- Carbon?

Logan Newsom: Cartoon. Cartoon. You can't read my chicken scratch, but that's okay. [00:36:00]

Sam Silvers: Um- That, that really looks like a B.

Logan Newsom: Cartoon, cartoon. Cartoon was a buck that I saw at Ty and Cooper's last year that, um, that Barrett and those guys raised. Uh, Middlesworth, Elk City Crew, um, obviously Diamond C, um, all owns together.

Yeah. I, I, I just saw a handful of sheep and, and I think that maybe actually we might have ended up buying a ewe lamb out of him or I bid on one, and I didn't see a lot of them, but thought that sheep was good, thought he was a quality sheep. And, um, you know, a lot of that stuff of Barrett's, um, you know, kinda has some of the Chief lineage in it and, you know, a little different wrinkle.

Um, then maybe s- again, you know, kinda going back to some of our stuff, but, um, thought that was a sheep that was interesting. I would say a little bit like Quinilla. I don't think they got a lot of sheep out of him. Yeah. I think the ones they got out of him were good, but, uh, you know, one of those that I could see...

Sometimes it's, it's funny how those bucks, you know, maybe in- Mm-hmm ... their second year, like, if they didn't have a great [00:37:00] run or maybe there were some semen issues or maybe they just didn't get bred right, and then all of a sudden, like, you know, maybe year two and three, all of a sudden you kinda start seeing a few more winners surface.

Um- Yeah ... you know, just kinda different, different scenarios.

Uh, you know, Chief, you know, we kinda mentioned that one, and I know I've got a list there. I was actually thinking about- Yeah ... like some of those that have been just-

Sam Silvers: Consistent

Logan Newsom: ... the consistent ones, like...

Sam Silvers: Chief 2.0, Unicorn, you're always gonna get consistent sheep.

I, I think great to bring that up 'cause I, I think that, like, as a breeder, if you're struggling, you don't know what to do, maybe you just y- you know, you just wanna raise some consistent sheep, I think 2.0, Unicorn, Chief, any of those right there, they're gonna... They're still gonna throw you really good sheep.

A, you know, probably a, a large swath of nice sheep too.

Logan Newsom: Sure. Um- Yeah, l- I can't imagine that those guys are gonna have many throwaways. Um, yeah, you know, Unicorn, like... And, and, and we s- think about this in our, you know, program and what we're trying to do. Graham's sheep at Angelo last year that was reserve is a Unicorn.

I know Ty [00:38:00] and them just won, um, California State Fair with one of their families. That was a Hubbard sheep that was a Unicorn, and we're, like, on year, like, seven, you know, and that buck's- Yeah ... still winning, you know? And so, um, I guess maybe that kinda goes back to what we said earlier, like, you don't have to always...

It doesn't have to always be the next big thing-

Sam Silvers: Yeah

Logan Newsom: ... the next shiny object. Like, you know, those guys that are breeders and, you know, um, I w- I would assume that, you know, that sheep that wins California, like Tim and those guys, you know, didn't have a lot of the Unicorn stuff, jumped in there and tried it.

Some stuff blended, some stuff worked. Get 'em a State Fair win, you know? Yep, yep. Like, some good, some good things can happen. You don't always have to maybe rethink the wheel or whatever.

Sam Silvers: So on... under this- Outside

Logan Newsom: I don't know if I should have given you, like-

Sam Silvers: Your notebook?

Logan Newsom: Yeah.

Sam Silvers: Oh, yeah. I'm getting, I'm getting...

Yeah. Oh, also got Graham's, uh-

Logan Newsom: Probably, uh, what he's trying...

Was that me t- trying to teach him probably circumference of a circle or something?

Sam Silvers: Uh, well, all school year, he only took, uh, two pages of [00:39:00] notes in math.

Logan Newsom: Perfect.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. I don't- Yeah ... really know how that went.

Logan Newsom: Good thing he can jump high and shoot the ball.

Sam Silvers: Exactly. Um- Where are we at? Oh, here we go. So rule... Let's talk about rules a little bit, right? We both used some rule bucks last year. I still think there's some, uh, you know, Ol' Natty and Gucci, I still think those are good bucks to breed to.

Logan Newsom: Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: He's got some new ones coming up, like Bad Intentions, Problem Child, um, look like pretty good bucks.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, and, uh, you know, I, I know that the Ol' Natty deal, and I know you probably saw a lot of those sheep at Justin's. Mm-hmm. Um, I know you always go up there, you know, and look through that deal. Um, man, we fed one last year for Dallas that I liked a lot. I, I liked how that sheep fed, I liked a lot of the things he represented.

Um, sheep gets along fine, you know, whatever, but, uh, we AI'd to him with a little group, um, which would have been some of the sheep in our 806. I've been able to see a handful of those things. Man, they're feeding and they look good. The Gucci deal was, you know, the [00:40:00] FF that I know Maverick had, you know, one of those ewe lambs and, you know, a bunch of those sheep got along well.

I think maybe the Otto Girls sheep in California was a flush mate and went some-

Sam Silvers: Shep's blue one-

Logan Newsom: Shep's blue one ...

Sam Silvers: at Arizona.

Logan Newsom: Yep, yep. Uh, so, so obviously a very good flush. The group that we had, and it was a very small sample size, but the group that we had out of Gucci, and we bred him back w- and, you know, being a buck that's FF, we did breed him to, you know, some stuff that we had to...

Wanted to kinda, kinda protect. Not necessarily, uh, the ewes that were midgets, but maybe were a little heavier on the D. Um-

Sam Silvers: Shorter statured.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, shorter statured. Um, but yeah, that, that buck did us a good job. Those sheep, uh, we've got a handful of them that are in New Mexico.

Uh, we got one of them that's getting fed their close. Um, kept a couple ewe lambs out of that deal. That sheep did us a very, very nice job. And a- and again, I think it was a little bit of that we bred him some ewes that were very lined up and, you know, he was a little bit of just kind of the outcross that, that we kinda wanted to, wanted to potentially to have in [00:41:00] there, and that could, that could kinda blend some stuff up and maybe slightly water down the well just enough that, uh, you know, we could get a little further away from having two-headed sheep.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, yeah.

Logan Newsom: Okay, so that's... Or you've, you've, you've changed- That's your page ... yeah, you've changed pages on me.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, there's a lot, um-

Logan Newsom: So, so we talked about that and I wanna hit on a couple more of them because there was, um... I had, I had made notes there and, and we talked about, like, hot bucks. L- the biggest, like, hottest buck probably going right now has gotta be Behind Enemy Lines.

Sam Silvers: Oh, yeah, 100%.

Logan Newsom: I mean, I would assume, like, that is, like... That poor buck, like, he probably doesn't even like coming out of his pen 'cause he knows he's just gonna have to get serviced for the rest of the industry. Um- You know, Tyson, Ty and Cooper, Joe and Megan, um, you know, those gurus that got that... Those, those crews that have that buck.

I mean, that thing's been bred far and wide. And, you know, you've got one on feed from us. We've talked about that in one of the podcasts. Sheep wins his, you know, the lightweight class at M- Medina Meltdown here this last weekend, like-

Sam Silvers: Thought about... They thought [00:42:00] about putting Reserve both shows, I think. I mean-

Logan Newsom: Should have.

Hey, I say that Graham was Reserve, that sheep should've got a piece of it, like- I, I, I, I think that, uh... I think that, that thing's got a very bright future, and we're excited about him. But, you know, that, that buck and, and him being a Tres Amigos, you know, that's something that... You know, we've talked about the Unicorn line because that's obviously where, you know, we're a little more aligned on our stuff.

But Bell and then the Tres Amigos, you know, and what all, you know, Greg- Yeah ... and, you know, that buck. I mean, no telling how many ewes that buck's been bred across.

Sam Silvers: The Julio deal at Neff's. Yep. You know, I know he's shipping out quite a bit of semen on him already.

Logan Newsom: A lot on him. I remember seeing that sheep as a baby.

Sam Silvers: Nice buck.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, thought he was good. Um, Chance had mentioned Tempo the other day. Yeah. Uh, I had seen that sheep. That's the... And, and, and I, and I could be wrong, but I'm almost positive that's the sheep that he sold at the sale. It wasn't, it wasn't High Stakes.

Sam Silvers: It was the other one. The m- like, it's like the morning...

Whatever, the, the one that's... was right before the 101. Or maybe it was...

Logan Newsom: No, it was High Stakes.

Sam Silvers: No, it was High- Yeah, it was [00:43:00] High Stakes ...

Logan Newsom: Yeah. Okay. So he sells half of him as a, you know, an option, but, um, pretty sure that was a Never son. Um, but I knew, I knew Chance had kinda mentioned him. You know, we kinda hit on obviously the Chief line and, you know, how popular and all the winners that have come out of that.

But, um, yeah, I know that he was, he was pretty high on, yeah, on, uh, on those two buck lambs. Sure. And, you know, they have Tariff that's an FF option that, um, I know some guys have mentioned that they were using that, you know, again, kinda one of those that, you know, find a place for him, and he'll probably, probably make you some quality, quality stock.

Um, we talked about Bell a little bit. That Upper Hand crew, you know, I mean, what, um, Lucas Tuck and Sister and, um, you know, those guys have kinda partnered up and, and, uh, created that Upper Hand genetics. Um, I know that they bought one of those Bell sons that was a Bell on 2.0's mom, and, um, that was the pick of Bluegrass Babes that they bought from the Alan Newcomb crew.

They seem really, really high on that one. That was a buck that we... I, [00:44:00] I, I'd love to see him. I, I, I bought a flush mate ewe lamb to him that I really, really like. I have not seen that buck in person. I didn't go up there and look at those sheep early on, but he was the one that got pulled out. And, um, I know those guys, you know, and they're, they're kinda...

They're kinda doing some stuff. those guys have partnered up, you know, with Travis Platt, and obviously he's had a extensive run in the pig world, and, you know, just on the, especially, you know, on the semen side of things.

But I think they got some interesting things. We didn't talk about it, but I, we do, uh, I did have a few notes down there on, you know, some of these white bucks. I know that we don't necessarily dabble in it down here.

Sam Silvers: Nope.

Logan Newsom: Um, you get kicked out of... Don't they make you wear, like, an ankle monitor if you do that?

Sam Silvers: Yeah. I, they, they're gonna make you wear something.

Logan Newsom: They're gonna make you wear something. Be like that, uh, scarlet letter deal.

Uh, but I know that Upper Hand has a group of those white bucks that, uh, kinda came out of that Will firm that those guys were, were pretty high on.

And, uh, you know, for you guys that are white-faced enthusiasts, Chance and, and Titus have their buck.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. Yeah. I saw him. He looks really good.

Logan Newsom: I liked him. Yeah. Yeah. Very good. [00:45:00] Very qual- Very, very good quality sheep. Um, so yeah, if you're not necessarily just doing all the black face deal and you're interes- interested in, you know, kinda the white-faced Dorset Advantage, whatever you boys in north of the Red River call, call them things, they ought to breed some of them finewool bucks of ours.

Sam Silvers: That's what I'm thinking.

Logan Newsom: That'd fix some of their problems.

Sam Silvers: Get some horn in there. Yep. Yeah. Some cuernos.

Logan Newsom: All right, so we've talked about kinda- Maybe where we're looking, um, we have got about two more weeks until we do our first one, so we've got a little- I've got a little time to... I'm sure I'll go through two, two or three more pages, but I got a little time before I have to make those final decisions.

Silver's Livestock- Yep ... you guys got one coming up in August. Yep. Um, background of your ewes, I would say is affiliated strongly with the Impact Genetics.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, I would say, um, y- yeah, I mean, that's where we got our f- first start and the first ewes we ever bought were from Impact, and then we went back a few years later and bought more Impact ewes.

Um, [00:46:00] but I would say that in the last probably four years, we're, we're pretty Chief heavy now.

Logan Newsom: Sure, yeah.

Sam Silvers: Um- Bought a couple of bucks from Chance- Yeah, we bought the Quanah buck- ... a couple years ... and, you know, didn't breed him hard the first year or two, um, but have let him run cleanup, and, and I told Chance, um, I'm actually gonna take him up there next week and we're gonna test him fertility-wise.

I think we're gonna flush some ewes back to him. Um, he's done us a, a great, great job, and, um, got some keeper ewe lambs out of him that are just banging good. Um-

Logan Newsom: I would say from an outsider looking in, that might have been a buck that was a little ahead of his time.

Sam Silvers: I think so. You know?

Logan Newsom: I mean, just the white and the cool and, you know, some of the chromy that I've seen some of those sheep have, like whenever you bought him, you know, that wasn't probably quite as hot as it is now.

Sam Silvers: Hot, yeah.

Logan Newsom: And, uh, yeah- Yeah ... I'm not surprised that he's, he's coming back around.

Sam Silvers: He does a good job. And, and I think, you know, that... so that goes back to where we're at at Silver's Livestock, and what we're doing is i- is, you know, we're trying to [00:47:00] breed bucks in places and make up pieces right now. We're trying to put that puzzle together instead of just maybe...

You know, we're gonna pull the reins back a little bit this year and, and breed some of our, more of our own bucks, and try to hone in on where they need to go and where they fit to try to make, you know, better, more consistent sheep, I think. Um-

Logan Newsom: You're breeding the 687. Yeah, Red Tag. Red Tag.

Sam Silvers: So y- yeah, uh, Quanah is one we're gonna utilize.

Uh, obviously we're gonna try to use War Wagon again. That buck did us a good job from the Estes crew out there that we own with Matt. Yeah. Um, you know, heavy Chief, Chief, Chief, basically Chief, Chief, Chief, I think, is basically what he is.

Logan Newsom: I was about to say, like, that thing's just literally, like, red-feathered.

He's... What you could, should have called him, like that thing is lined up.

Sam Silvers: Lined up. Um, but throws big shape, big skin, a lot of muscle. Um, works really good on the off-breeds, too. Um, some of those we won with last weekend were all War Wagon, so- Yep ... I think we're gonna try him heavy.

Logan Newsom: Yep. War Wagon was, uh, maybe, [00:48:00] I don't know- Consistently the top four or five in, in, in those final cross classes.

Um, I think maybe we had one sheep that might have slipped in there that we actually raised that w- won the lightweights, and I think all the rest of them were some of our crew's four wagon crosses from- Yeah ... that fall born set from Mad Dog, so yeah.

Sam Silvers: I'm still trying to get Logan to breed a few ewes to him.

He just hasn't committed yet. Um-

Logan Newsom: I'll, I'll add him to that scratch pad on the other side.

Sam Silvers: The, the other Estes buck that we call Prep, I think we're gonna try to... Which is a little Dale Robin, and it's... And this goes back to some kind of older stuff, Robin Hood Shark stuff. Um-

Logan Newsom: Which, correct me if I'm wrong, some of that stuff is a little, you know, what I would call old school Franklin.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. Is that kind of where-

Logan Newsom: Yeah ... you know, I mean, like, um- It's fair ... I mean, that's what I mean. Uh, like, what those guys were doing there, um, at, at Estes, you know what I mean? Just kind of thinking about some of that. Like, which, you know- Hitting on that, like, those are good sheep. Like, those things were burly legged and stout and opened up, you know, maybe even before that [00:49:00] was the cool thing or whatever you wanna say.

But I've always been, you know, from watching afar, like you talk about that buck that y'all call Prep, like, and I saw that sheep in person at maybe at y'all's open house, like body shape and width and what just looks like skin that's been painted on, man, that thing's got it. Like, I know that y'all bred him pretty hard on the white ewes and, but I don't know.

Pre-

Sam Silvers: I'm gonna try him on my bigger frame- Yeah ... more FF type ewes, try to moderate them back a little bit- Yeah ... a- and keep that muscle tone and texture, if you will.

Logan Newsom: Yeah. I've always thought those sheep that, you know, that those guys, that Estes had, like, they look dense to me. Like-

Sam Silvers: Very dense

Logan Newsom: ... never been out there, you know, and, and, and actually, like, looked at them in person, but just those sheep look like they are just very, very dense in terms of their feature and their skeleton and width progression and just kinda all that.

So- Um- ... I'm not surprised that that's a, that's an intriguing piece.

Sam Silvers: Another one that we haven't talked about was Last Man. That would be the, the buck that we, we purchased half of from Warnches, uh, from Jake, [00:50:00] which is an Alliance Smoke Wagon deal. Um, thought that buck was really good in his underline, really big in his loin edges.

It, you know, not one of those short, round upper hips, kind of big, wide, square, long-hipped buck, um, that I think could be utilized in our herd, and I think that's some things we need, um, uh, on some of the War Wagon daughters, things like that. So again, just trying to find pieces that fit, um, and, you know, trying to find bucks that, that make sense, uh, business-wise.

Y- you know?

Logan Newsom: Oh, you mean to tell me that this is a business?

Sam Silvers: Yeah. Um-

Logan Newsom: Huh, interesting

Sam Silvers: ... you know, if, if we can- I

Logan Newsom: think sometimes some of our customers and outsiders forget that this is-

Sam Silvers: Yeah ...

Logan Newsom: very much a business.

Sam Silvers: There's only so many times you can write it off on your taxes. Um, but you know, some bucks that, that fit financially a- and you actually are getting a return on, because, you know, I, I'm, I'm not n- knocking it, but I don't think Silver's Livestock is ever gonna be y- you know, somebody [00:51:00] that sells a million dollars worth of semen.

That's just- No ... not who our i- identity is. That's probably not who we are. So I've gotta find bucks that make business sense, you know, bucks that, that fit a puzzle piece, monetarily they fit, and I'm getting some sort of return on them.

Logan Newsom: Well, and I think that's, that's interesting because I think there's sometimes- You know, maybe guys that their identity is selling semen- Yeah

you know, and that's what, that's what, and that's what they wanna do, and that's fine. Sure. That's cool. Great. Uh, we, we need you also. What would you say you're trying to do at Silver's Livestock?

Sam Silvers: Well, I keep saying it, but, you know, uh, just consistent sheep is what we're trying to do. Um, but y- you know, at the same time is do more with less, right?

Um, it... Make consistent sheep do more with less and, and, you know, be profitable. Yeah Yeah. That's what we're trying to do ...

Logan Newsom: so hover, hover somewhere close to zero, that's always what we're trying to do.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. It... And sh- you know, [00:52:00] if we wanna get down to it, we've talked about it, you know, sheep that have actual muscle and density and shape, but still some athleticism to 'em, um, sheep that you just can...

Y- you know, I want, if little Johnny comes to the house and buys one for 1,000 bucks and feeds him, um, he can shear him and take him to the show and-

Logan Newsom: Yeah, he can be, he can be competitive,

Sam Silvers: uh- Get a dot with him. Yeah, absolutely. Something like that.

Logan Newsom: Well, I think that's interesting, and I think, you know, you say that consense- consistency deal, and, you know, maybe for those of us, you know, stock show dads that might have a tendency to swing for the fence a little more with our own kids' projects, um, I th- I felt like we were spinning our wheels a little bit maybe the first three or four years that we were very...

trying to b- trying to be very, very competitive raising Blackface sheep, and we were trying to raise the Grand at Houston or the Grand at Denver or whatever. And I thought whenever we [00:53:00] changed a little bit of our mindset to actually cater to our customers, our sheep drastically got better quicker than trying to just be a home run hitter- Yeah

or, or whatever you wanna call it. And, and I think at the end of the day, for people that are in roles like what we're in, there's a whole lot more little Johnnies than there are us idiots that are trying to win San Antonio.

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: You know? Like, most of those people, stereotypically speaking, like, they can have a very enjoyable, um, time showing their project.

They go to their county, they're successful at their county, they jackpot a little. You know, maybe they win some trinkets along the way, they win their class. May- maybe they're fifth, but they're, they're competitive. Um, they have a good time. It's a family-focused, oriented, you know- Yeah ... environment. And then they go to Houston, and maybe they're 15th.

Yeah. They're freaking pumped. Like, we have all, we have all those people, like... And it's amazing how sometimes, and I have to tell myself [00:54:00] this, and I think I've probably talked about it on, you know, an episode before, like sometimes maybe we raise that sheep, a little Johnny, and I thought he could've been a top five deal, and for whatever reason he ends up 12th, you know, and I kinda wanna go back to the pen and, and kick a bucket.

And then little Johnny comes up- Excited ... and they're freaking pumped. Yeah. He's pumped, his mom's pumped, they're crying, they're happy. Got his funnel- They're getting their mug drunk ... funnel cake. Funnel cake. Like, all of it, and I'm just like- Let's go ... that's... At the end of the day, like, that's, that's our customers.

They're happy.

Sam Silvers: We got a reason to be happy.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, no reason for me to kick a bucket. Like- Yeah ... give me some of that funnel cake, Johnny, and let's do it again.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, let's do it again.

Logan Newsom: So yeah, I think that, I think that puts a lot of it, you know, that consistency deal can put some stuff in perspective. Um, and you know, even, like, we talk about this, like we're gonna interview some of these ag, you know, ag teachers over the next couple days, and I think if you ask them, like- What they're trying to do, you know, those ones that do have competitive sheep and goat projects and, you know, they're...

They have programs that are trying to be successful, be successful at the county, make the sale. You know? Yeah. That's probably... And, and that's, that's perfect. Like, [00:55:00] there are only a handful of us, you know, that are doing what we're trying to do for whatever reason. I would love to have a little more of a little Johnny mindset and eat a little bit more funnel cake.

Sam Silvers: Well, I mean, let's be honest with, with each other, and we're getting off the buck deal here a little. I mean, it, it's easy to sell the elite ones, right?

Logan Newsom: Absolutely. Yeah.

Sam Silvers: They, they're easy to sell. What we've gotta find out is how do we sell more of the what I would call 750 to $2,000 sheep.

Logan Newsom: Sure. Right? Yeah.

Sam Silvers: Um, and, and make those consistent and work out.

Logan Newsom: Yeah.

Sam Silvers: Right? Yeah. Um, so that's, that's kinda what our focus is as right now. Um, if we talk about some other bucks, um, you, you know, I d- this is one I didn't see, but I really like the picture of him. Um, talked to the guy about him several times, and, and that's one that, that Tyler, uh, Tyler Rhodes has with Beatty they call Scooter, which is a- Yeah

Tres Amigos on a blind side jewel deal. Um, I think that buck looked really good. Again, I've not seen him in person, [00:56:00] but I thought his picture looked... That, that's my kinda sheep.

Logan Newsom: Yeah. I remember you saying something about that sheep. And, um, you know, you talk about Tyler and, um, and we've, and I, you know, we kinda talked about Greg and, you know, that crew.

And, um, you know, definitely somebody I would consider that's, you know, huge player in the semen game. Um, Unfiltered. Yeah. Uh, you know, we didn't mention him earlier. And that's, that's a buck that I, I, I've got starred that I, I thought that was a very, very nice set of sheep across the board Corp weekend, and that's the first time that I had seen any of those.

But I just kinda kept gravitating towards a few of 'em. You know, they'd be in the stands or, you know, they might be have been, you know, run across the auction block, and I would just kinda mentally note like, "Oh, hey. That was an Unfiltered. That was an Unfiltered." You know, again, you talk about, you know, what that one sire has done and how popular he's been.

Um, your sheep that y'all won with the platinum deal was an Unfiltered. I mean, th- them were, them were quality sheep. Like- Sure ... at the end of the day, you know, that consistency, and I think you can kinda take that a step further and say, "I wanna consistently make quality [00:57:00] sheep," and you can have so many happy customers, and you can survive in this deal for a long time as opposed to, you know, "Hey, I wanna win Houston," you know?

Sam Silvers: Yeah. Yeah.

Logan Newsom: Like, that's, that's- Yeah ... that's probably... You know, and I think that goes back again, we talk about that breeder mindset and that mentality as oppo- as opposed to maybe, you know, the replication mentality. Um, and that's, you know, some things that, you know, we definitely can-

Sam Silvers: And, and then one I did see that I was really impressed with was Hild's Proper Attire, that Company Man/Rod Thompson that they have.

Um, that buck was impressive. I mean, big body, big center body, just flat backed. Yeah. I mean, hampy featured. Uh, just all the things you like. Just kinda looks like a man standing in the pen.

Logan Newsom: I remember you saying that you saw that buck at Tyson's. Mm-hmm. Saw him at Tyson's. Tyson & Morrison. Yeah. Um, yeah, and I remember you telling me that you thought that sheep looked good.

And, and, you know, you hit on that. I don't think we've mentioned Company Man, you know.

Sam Silvers: Yeah.

Logan Newsom: Again, you know, he won a gazillion shows last year. Um, obviously a buck that has been, [00:58:00] you know, popular that Matt and, you know, that Impact bunch, uh, Calvin and Brian own together, and, you know, has been very, very-

Sam Silvers: There's another one out there that we've seen too.

Uh, maybe, uh, some of those that, that Ali Moore had raised. Uh, Big Man On Campus.

Logan Newsom: Big Man On Campus, yeah.

Sam Silvers: Some of the- Yeah ... that, that's an Impact deal. That's an Impact deal. Yep. Yep. Yep. Those sheep are nice. Yeah. We've got one on feed that's real nice.

Logan Newsom: Is that what your sheep from Ali is? Is it Big Man On Campus?

Sam Silvers: And I think it may be the Big Man, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Logan Newsom: It's a good sheep. I've seen him. Yeah, so you know, that's a, that's a, uh... And I, I don't know if, I don't know if Big Man On Campus is a Company Man or not, but, um, you know, that's a, uh, goes without saying, you know, what Impact and the footprint that they, they've got and, you know, what they've done.

Sam Silvers: No argument what Company Man's done.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, yeah. I mean- Absolutely.

Sam Silvers: I mean- He's won a lot ...

Logan Newsom: yeah, for, for an FF buck, you know, um, to be, I would say, that consistently sireing big time champions, I think is, is, is a, is a resume that's certainly very impressive.

Sam Silvers: So I had texted Charlie, and, and I'm gonna quote, I'm gonna read Charlie's text [00:59:00] here, quote, "Uh, another buck they really like- Char- Charlie Hild.

Logan Newsom: First of all, Charlie, Charlie Hild, uh, Hild Brothers show stock. Yeah. Okay? Um- Good ... incr- incredible facility, great family.

Sam Silvers: Lot of fun.

Logan Newsom: Awesome dude. Lot of fun. We need to make sure that whenever we talk about them, we have the picture of Charlie whenever they were first really getting going with his Terminator glasses on.

Yeah. It's on, it's still on his website. It's on. I know it's still there. Um, yeah, that's definitely gonna have to... We can... Katy, surely we can flash that up on the screen while we're, while we're giving, uh, the old Hill brothers a little plug. Okay, read, read what Charlie got going.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. Majority Rules, that's another buck that they're really high on this year.

Another Company Man son, Company Man ride time. Uh, Mom was fifth overall at NAILE- Geez ... uh, for Marshall Miller. Um, and then another buck they call Pink Pony, and he says-

Logan Newsom: That's a white one, isn't it?

Sam Silvers: He says, quote, "Badass dirty white."

Logan Newsom: Dirty white, that's right up that alley for you boys that are dabbling in that.

[01:00:00] Boy, can you imagine if we started promoting our fine wool sheep as dirty white ones?

Sam Silvers: Dirty white, a badass dirty white one. So, uh, that, that's Charlie Hill's quote, not me. Uh, Charlie. Yeah. Sorry, bub. Yep. Yep. They, they really just, when I go up there and look at sheep, it just... Him and his brother, I, I just give them mortal hell, and they hate to see me coming, 'cause I'm always jewing them on sheep and-

Logan Newsom: Nothing about the...

Charlie, I'm sorry that you have to deal with him. Nothing about that. You- You've dealt with him for a long time, though, so you should know by now. Yeah, so, uh, uh, yeah, again, another one that we would talk about, you know, a big footprint in the semen industry and, you know, what those guys have done and-

Sam Silvers: And great dudes.

Logan Newsom: Absolutely. Absolutely. Um, yeah. Tanner got... Um, that's his brother's name, right? Tanner? Yeah. Yeah. He was, he was a Will Bareilles employee there for a little while, about the same time I was, and then we both, I guess, just decided, "Hey, who needs two paychecks a month? We'll just see if we can't make a run at this deal doing-

Sam Silvers: Have you seen Tanner dress up in his elf costume at [01:01:00] the, the birch sale and sell a sheep?

It-

Logan Newsom: No ...

Sam Silvers: it's pretty entertaining. No. Yeah. I'll... We'll have to get some video- Yeah ... footage of that.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, we get a couple of little clips there of the Hill boys then. If we can get Charlie with them Terminator glasses and Tanner with a, with his elf costume on.

Sam Silvers: Yeah, for sure. Okay. So we went over all this. We, we-

Logan Newsom: Those are...

Yeah, if, if you're not breeding to any of the bucks that we talked about, you might as well sell out.

Sam Silvers: You're in trouble.

Logan Newsom: Sell out. You're done.

Sam Silvers: Be done. Be done. Um, but to kind of wrap it up, I, I think we've been yakking here for a while, so, um-

Logan Newsom: And it's so hot. It, it is. Humid. Brutally hot. Not as hot as Lajitas, but this is a different kind of heat.

Sam Silvers: It's just, I can just feel the sweat just going down my back and in my crack. So to wrap up, you, you got to staring off there in the distance there.

Logan Newsom: Man, ear- earlier-

Sam Silvers: Are you thinking about buying a boat or-

Logan Newsom: No, I'm definitely not buying a boat. Uh, Papa K used to have this '92 Glastron, and I think all we did was work on it.

That was about the time that I'm pretty sure he came in one day, he's like, "We're just gonna stock show all summer," and we're like, "Hell yeah, this is [01:02:00] better than working on that damn boat." But, uh, yeah, we had a lake house at PK and, uh, that, that was fun while it lasted, but then we started being aggressive stock show, you know, TCLA days and-

Sam Silvers: Oh, yeah

Logan Newsom: there's no room for, there was no room for the boat. No, earlier I saw a, a dolphin or some finned fish that I thought was-

Sam Silvers: It was probably Jaws.

Logan Newsom: Huh? Jaws or, uh- Jaws. Great White ... what's that, what's that, uh, that- These birds are pissed off. Oh, these birds are mad. There was one of them that was- Katy's over here trying to run them off

Ka- yeah, Katy not only has to run the camera, but she's gotta-

Sam Silvers: We're gonna get her a flagging stick to chase them off.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, get her, get her a flagging stick to keep these birds off.

But yeah, so we, uh, we didn't, we didn't, we didn't, we probably got more off on, you know, bucks and semen maybe than, um, than exactly what we were, you know, AI and flush, and we kind of talked about, you know, stress being the big word, I think, that everyone's concerned with.

Sam Silvers: I'm stressed just thinking about it.

Logan Newsom: Uh, consistently, yeah. Oh, dude, I was sitting there, it, you know, and, and it's amazing, uh, you're supposed to be here, you know, maybe kind of enjoying your time, a little bit of vacationing, go play some golf, do [01:03:00] some fishing, and, you know, we- we're supposed to put CIDR's in for our first one tomorrow.

Yeah. And I can just imagine what those boys at home that have seven brain cells between the three of them-

Sam Silvers: And can we just-

Logan Newsom: ... are gonna screw up ...

Sam Silvers: while we're talking about the semen and bucks and all that, can we just go ahead and say that, uh, UPS and FedEx, you need to do a better job. If you're listening to this, you're terrible.

Logan Newsom: Yeah. Yeah.

Sam Silvers: 'Cause you, you screw it up usually about 60 to 70% of the time.

Logan Newsom: That's definitely not someone that we're looking for from a sponsorship, so we can, we can probably bash on them. I think Logan McLennan's probably been as vocal as anybody-

Sam Silvers: Oh, I was gonna say that is

Logan Newsom: ... as, uh, what his thoughts are on- Logan McLennan hates them

on everyone outside of, uh, the postal service, but-

Sam Silvers: Logan Mack, if you're listening, just- ... take a sip of Mountain Dew, son. It's gonna be all right.

Logan Newsom: Yeah, so, uh, stress being the big word, you know, uh, consistency, you know, is always something that we try to, we try to, you know, keep in mind and, and as we're kind of getting ready for, you know, those AIs and those flushes, um- It is.

It's, it's, it's a crazy stressful, expensive time of the year if you're a- if you're in the sheep production side of it. [01:04:00] Um, if you're a, uh, if you're a customer or a consumer- It's very true ... I would say, uh, I would say pray for us and, you know, hope that everything goes right and we don't pay out on, you know, said day and have a huge rainstorm or hail storm that blows in 24 hours later because it's...

It can be, it can be detrimental. Like, it's, it's a huge thing for us, um, for what we're trying to do as- Yeah ... you know, pro- production guys. So, um, it's, it's what we do though, you know? Yeah. I mean, it's part of it. Yeah. We try to- we try to manage and we try to come out of there with, you know, some sort of results that can be considered successful.

And at the end of the day, man, we're just trying to get live babies on the ground. You know- Yeah ... you hear about crazy numbers and, you know, incredible flush results and all that, and I've always been one that, you know, just kinda can feel like do a good job on flush day of not worrying about the big hitters and the losers, just kinda ride the wave and hope that at the end of the day, and then, you know, five months later, um, we're busy lambing out a group of those things.

And, and usually if that's the case, then, then we can survive.

Sam Silvers: Yep. So again, to, to kinda wrap this up, this [01:05:00] is only our opinion. Um, this isn't the gospel, so, um, it... You know, I don't know if there's gonna be people out there in the comment section that are gonna probably bash us on this, but I guess that's-

Logan Newsom: Oh, there will be.

Sam Silvers: Yeah. That's- There will be ... part of getting- quarter of a million views It's part of, yeah, part of you being a celebrity come with the territory. Yeah. Yeah, I don't, I don't, I haven't a- been asked for an autograph yet. Have you?

Logan Newsom: It's coming.

Sam Silvers: So, um- Wrap up episode eight. Yep, wrap up. Yeah. What are we gonna talk about in nine? The seagulls now have arrived.

Logan Newsom: I'm sure that as we get into, uh...

Well, one of our next ones, and, and, and I think we're gonna probably do that at some point while we're down here, I think we have a quarter of a million questions on the website that we need to answer. Oh, yeah. Um, so folks, if you have submitted stuff, we have not been ignoring you. Uh, we're just gonna try to make kind of a whole episode out of that.

So that's probably what nine is gonna be, if I was guessing. Yeah. Um, we're gonna get some good content with some ag teachers, uh, kinda get some insight on what those guys got going as far as their programs.

Sam Silvers: And then we're gonna do the wives.

Logan Newsom: And then we're [01:06:00] also gonna have- Stock show moms ... stock show moms.

How about that? JB and Jurahee, um, which I think is gonna be interesting, because that's two different stock show mom approaches. Um, I'm not gonna dig in on that. Um, we'll just have to see kinda how that works.
